Sr. Engineering Technician - Bedford, MA

Soft Robotics is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician with hands-on experience in the development of robots and / or automation equipment. As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will be a high-value member of a fast-paced integrated product development team, working side by side with engineers to bring new systems to market. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on skills, extensive Electro-Mechanical experience and a broad understanding of automation equipment. He/she will be a proactive, self-starter who can create and build working assemblies with from high level instructions. The successful candidate must also be eager to participate in all areas of technical development and to work with the other disciplines to support robotic system development in a fast-paced, startup environment. The more skills you bring to the table, the more scope you can take on.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Support the build of prototype systems from start to finish including (but not limited to):

  • Manufacture parts using in house tools: mill, lathe, 3d printer and laser cutter

  • 80-20 frame cut, modify and build

  • Cabinet modification, mounting of din rail components and wiring

  • Cabling

  • Pneumatics assembly

  • Design and build fixtures to support development  

  • System set up and calibration

 

Experience/Education Requirements

  • Associates degree in technical field

  • 5+ years relevant experience

  • Strong electro-mechanical assembly and aptitude

  • Experience with machine tools including mill and lathe

  • Experience with wiring, crimping, cabling

  • Experience with pneumatics

  • Familiarity with rapid prototype equipment including 3d printer and laser cutter

 

Preferred qualifications:
  • BS in a technical field (ME, EE, SW)

  • 10+ years relevant experience

  • Experience in assembly of industrial automation

  • Experience packaging industrial automation components in cabinets

  • Experience with PLC’s

  • Generate wiring diagrams

  • Basics skills in CAD (Solidworks preferred)

  • Ability to read schematics

  • Loading software, running software scrips and calibration procedures

  • General debug skills
