“There’s an app for that”: job seeker edition

How many times have you heard the phrase “there’s an app for that”? Seems like with technology advancing so quickly, there’s usually an app for any need or amusement. Apps for games, staying organized, socializing, editing pictures- you name it, and there is an app for it. Whether it’s for function or fun, there always seems to be an app for all needs. Take Pokemon Go for example, not much for functionality, but it has really taken off for amusement purposes. It gets users out and walking to capture illusive Pokemon creatures.  I think of it as virtual reality meets gamers, taking your current surroundings and including fictional cartoon characters in the mix. Although it might not serve an important purpose, the allure is captivating audience of all different ages and getting them outside actively looking for Pokemon.

In my area of expertise, Apps that serve a purpose include Linkedin, Monster, and Indeed. These free apps seem to be under-utilized to help the job seeker. If you would like to be contacted instead of you constantly filling out endless applications, take the time to download and explore these apps. It is always my first recommendation for individuals looking to change roles and see what’s out there. Don’t waste time filling out so many job applications, just take the time to download these valuable free apps to help you with your search.

Many recruiters will look at your profiles and contact you versus you losing precious time to fill out redundant job applications. My recommendation for having recruiters scout for your talent is to put out what you do on a daily basis, and explain how you have contributed to your company. At times, certain profiles can seem vague, but if you gear your profile towards your skills and abilities, then you have a better chance of getting a call from a recruiter with a relevant job.

I can’t emphasize how important it is to put your experience out there on these sites. With just a simple download of your resume, you can make yourself more marketable to companies that are desperate for your expertise. Your resume can be downloaded to a mobile app, and you can conveniently apply without the time and hassle of applying to each individual one.  Don’t wait for companies to respond to your job application, instead have them come to you!
