Three tips for juggling your work and home life

These days, it doesn't feel like enough to be a stay at home mom and a housewife. The modern day woman is not only the cook and care taker of the family, but she is pursuing a career as well. It is a hard balance, because you want to put all of your effort into your work and your family, but it's hard to focus completely on one or the other at a time. We often will complain how the grass is greener on the other side. When we are at home taking care of the little ones, we crave any kind of contact outside of the walls of our homes. On the other hand, when we are so preoccupied with our career, we tend to miss the important events of our children. Here are my three tips for juggling work and a home life so you don’t feel like you have to miss anything.

  1. Budget your time well. Too often we stretch ourselves too thin and end up even more stressed out. Something that I have found that helps budget my time is having a family calendar to put everybody’s events and schedules up on as a reminder. Having the calendar somewhere that you all congregate is helpful. If it’s by the dining table, it’s easily to look through while eating together, and gives you all a chance to talk about how your upcoming schedules are looking.
  2. Accept you are not superwoman/superman. You can’t be everywhere at once. You can’t do everything yourself.  I find giving my children chores helps me eliminate stress by taking a little bit off of my plate, and it also teaches them responsibility. Also, having a support system is important when trying to balance work and home life. Don’t be afraid to ask for help whenever you are feeling overwhelmed or taking on too many things at once.
  3. Don’t forget to take care of yourself. You are no good to anyone if you run yourself into the ground. A healthy mind will function better when it is well rested and relaxed. Taking time for yourself will help you declutter your busy schedule and focus on what is important.
